Meet the Principal: Abbey Philpot of Arnold Mill ES

Our Principals can’t wait to welcome our students to learn more, grow more, and achieve more in our classrooms!  As we count down to the first day of school, we’re introducing you to our schools’ new principals. 

 Arnold Mill Elementary School’s new principal didn’t have far to move into her new office!  Abbey Philpot most recently served as the school’s assistant principal before being appointed by School Board in February to lead the Mustangs this school year.

A 25-year educator, Principal Philpot previously served as principal for Clayton Elementary School and, during her tenure there, the school was honored by the Governor with his Gold Award for greatest gains in academic performance.  She began her teaching career in Florida, where she taught for seven years at the elementary and middle school levels.  Principal Philpot joined CCSD as a math teacher at Chapman Intermediate School.  Since joining CCSD, she also has served as an assistant principal at Little River ES and Hasty ES Fine Arts Academy.

What are you most looking forward to in your new role?

I am most looking forward to building on the strong foundation we already have at Arnold Mill Elementary.  Having served as assistant principal here, I value the relationships and trust that already exist, and I’m excited to deepen those connections in my new role.  I’m especially eager to support our teachers, foster a positive school culture, and ensure that every student feels seen, supported, and empowered to succeed.  It’s incredibly meaningful to transition to this new role in a community I already care so deeply about.

What inspired you to become an educator?

Education has always been a part of my life.  Both of my parents were educators, so I grew up seeing firsthand the impact that caring, dedicated teachers and leaders can have on students and families.  Their passion for teaching inspired me early on, and I knew from the beginning of my career that I wanted to follow in their footsteps.  Over time, that passion grew into a desire to lead, support educators, and help shape a positive learning environment where students can reach their full potential.

How can parents be more involved with your school?

Parent involvement plays a critical role in student success!  I encourage parents to communicate regularly with teachers, attend school events, and stay informed through school communications.  One of the most impactful things parents can do is spend time reading with their child each day and reinforcing the importance of education at home.  Talking with children about their learning, celebrating their progress, and instilling a strong value for education helps set the foundation for lifelong success.  We want our school to feel like a true partnership, where parents feel welcomed and valued.
